Classroom Presentations OverviewWelcome
Teachers & Educators First off I will be arriving early in order to get the equipment set up and everything in order. When I start the lesson, we begin with some brief art history and background about the painting we will be re-creating. I will then do a very short lesson on colour theory, the colour wheel, complementary colours and how to mix so that we can create the three aspects of colour, hue, intensity and value. The next order of business will be to discuss how to use the brushes and pallet knives to manage the colour mixing process effectively. Now
we are ready to start our step-by-step painting process. I will demonstrate
each step and have the students copy my step. I will explain, using
correct art terminology, what I am doing as I go through the process.
They will get a hands-on colour mixing process that will let them mix
any colour that they can see from the three primary colours plus white.
Next I will explain to the students exactly where to put the colours they have mixed and how to use the brush in a special way to get the effect that we would like to have. This is how the lesson will continue until the painting is complete. How to Choose the Painting We Will Re-create.I have made several suggestions for each division for paintings to work from for our step-by-step lessons. You may pick one of these paintings or suggest another one and I will let you know if I can work from your suggestion. I am very flexible. We can also work from photographs if you like. Draw It Yourself or Use a Drawing Aid by Tracing an Outline:I give teachers the option to let students draw the shapes themselves to create their step-by-step paintings. Or, upon request, I also will provide tracings that will allow students to have more help with the drawing and let their paintings be closer to the original painting we are re-creating. Example of Drawing Aid:
