BIOJudith A. Jewer is a visual artist. She is fascinated with the process of seeing, and takes great pleasure in the visual world - especially the natural world. Judith paints outside "plein air" using acrylics and has been exploring landscape motifs of Ajax and Pickering locations. Judith also creates works of art in the studio and enjoys multimedia, soft pastels, still life, florals, and mandalas. Judith loves teaching and works with both adults and children to share her knowledge and love of art. Judith teaches how to paint with acrylics and how to draw both privately and for the Town of Ajax. Judith has a B.A. in painting and drawing from McMaster University. Judith has a diploma in Graphic Design from George Brown Collage and also works as a graphic designer from her home office. Judith's art has been influenced by many different artists. She especially loves the "Group of Seven" and the "French Impressionists." She also loves Emily Carr's work and paintings that capture the spiritual essence of the northern landscape.
Artist's StatementI love the experience of painting, especially painting outside and find that nature awakens in me a sense of heightened joy in being. I especially love to create beauty through shapes and textures. I love bright colours and developing a sense of the quality light and spatial depth in my paintings. My style utilizes the full range of acrylic painting techniques from textures to glazes. When I am outside looking at the trees and the sky I am totally engaged in the process and everything else is forgotten. The light, the breeze, the sounds, all of these sensations influence the process of painting. It is fun, it is what I want to do. I also want to help others to get the same pleasure from painting, through sharing my own work and teaching them to create their own.
