Student Work

Acrylic Painting for Adults

Just a few notes to let you know what is going on in my acrylic painting classes. We usually start off our beginners classes talking about what supplies - paints to buy and where to get them. Then we will be exploring what our paint will do. This is a little play session for everyone just to see what our paints will do. We talk about the qualities of acrylic paints and how they behave.

Then we get into working with our acrylics with a little more control - we make value scales and then learn how to create gradations.

Then we take our gradation lesson and learn how to apply it to make some simple landscapes.

Here are some examples of students landscapes.

We then work on learning how to use our acrylics to show simple geometric forms in just 2 colours - white and a dark colour. Here is a sphere a student painted in class:

Subsequent lessons for students include exploring all of the subject matter that students are interested in. Here are some roses and seascapes that students painted in class after watching demos that showed them step by step how to paint them:

What a student has said:
"This has been the most valuable art class I have ever taken. Judith has been amazing. She is an excellent teacher and motivate. Her demos were most helpful. I will certainly join the next art class with Judith"
